Diwali is a time of celebration, indulgence, and delicious feasts with family and friends. From mouth-watering sweets to savoury snacks, it’s easy to get swept away by the festive spread. While enjoying these treats is a part of the joy, it’s important to be mindful of our food so we can stay healthy throughout the festivities and avoid the unwanted weight gain.
This Diwali, let’s focus on savouring every bite without compromising our well-being. With a few smart eating tips, you can fully enjoy the flavours of the season while staying conscious, balanced, and nourished.
Here are a few tips -
Follow your usual diet through the day. Do not miss any meal.
Plan your Diwali special sweet/ savoury snack as an evening meal between 4-6 pm.
Choose any 1 sweet and 1 savoury snack at a time. Eg. gujiya + mathri OR ladoo + chorafali is ok. Do not have gujiya + ladoo.
If going out for dinner, eat a banana or a few spoons of curd rice before leaving home. This will prevent overeating at dinner.
At the dinner, choose any 1 starter + 1 main course dish. Do not have multiple dishes.
Avoid desserts. Only if it is a homemade halwa or kheer can you have a few bites.
Alcohol is best avoided (it's an auspicious festival!) but if you do plan to have -
Stick to only one type of liquor. Do not mix.
Have not more than 2 glasses.
After each glass of alcohol, have a glass of water.
Once home, have a tsp gulkand or a cup of haldi kaju milk before sleeping. It will prevent you from waking up bloated or puffy the next day.
Wear your best outfit without an ounce of worry about how you’ll look. If you wear it with confidence, you’ll be the show-stopper you truly are! 😎
